Episode #3 – Using Buttons

Posted 07/18/2009 - 9:07 pm by Mathias Reisch

In this episode we will take a look at how to use the Button-View and how to listen for button clicks using a listener object and its onClick() method. We will also cover some VERY basic ideas concerning layout and positioning of GUI elements. If you are interested in layouts of Android applications, we will have a more in-depth look at creating fancy layouts in a later episode.

The Tutorial

Since the last episodes audio was messed up a bit, I actually thought of re-recording it when I find the time for it. Anyway, for this episode I got a new headset and I think the audio quality is quite acceptable.

First, I like the turorials

But the variables myButton, myText and counter is not global variables. They are variables that are visible by all classes in the same package.

You should make them privater, so they are only visible from the same class file, that is, in this Activity.
