It’s Not All Over Now, Baby Blue
One of the most exciting new features is without a doubt the support for bluetooth. Now you can easily turn bluetooth on/off, discover new devices and services, connect to a remote device using RFCOMM, advertise RFCOMM services and listen for incomming connections. Also the graphics architecture has been improved for performance and now enables better hardware acceleration. There is also a new API for sync adapters that lets you synchronize with additional data sources.
On the user side of things there have been also a lot of changes, including new application icons, a new browser UI, new contact lists, Quick Contacts, a centralized account manager, Microsoft Exchange support, built-in flash support for the camera, digital zoom, an improved virtual keyboard, new messaging functions, support for more screen sizes and resolutions and much more.
Watch It
As before, Google released a video that shows some highlights of the Android SDK 2.0. Watch it now!
You can download the latest SDK package here: Android SDK 2.0. Note that you do not have to download this package if you are already on Android SDK 1.6. In that case you can already use the Android SDK and AVD Manager to update to the latest release. A tutorial on how this is done will follow soon. If you can’t wait, head over to the developer site and read the article about Adding SDK Components.
